3-Layer Mask
An important part of any cosmetic dentistry procedure is the use of a 3-layer mask. Here’s a quick introduction to the various types of masks and how they work.
A mask is made up of a thin layer of skin on top of a thicker one. In the case of dentistry, this is the patient’s natural tooth enamel. The thickness of the layer is used to block out any foreign objects that might be caught in the thin layer. It also helps to seal in the air that gets trapped in between the layers. This is used for a variety of reasons, including improving visibility, decreasing pain and irritation caused by tooth bleaching.
There are many types of masks available today. Some of these are disposable, others are semi-permanent and some are temporary, such as when a dentist removes the previous mask during the cleaning process of a cavity or other root canal. The type of mask you use will depend on the purpose of the treatment.
The three basic types of masks are disposable, semi-permanent. All three are designed to help with some of the same functions, but each of them will do so in a slightly different way. Let’s take a look at some of the most common uses of them.
Dental patients typically wear an appliance that goes over their teeth for several minutes every day while they sleep. This allows the dentist to clean away all of the food particles and plaque that build up between the layers of your teeth. If your dentist is going to use a 3-layer mask while cleaning it, he or she will be able to see what is blocking the teeth without removing the appliance.
Semi-permanent dental devices are worn for about six months, sometimes even a year. The removable parts are replaced after this time, and you can then change them to a new one. These appliances are designed to fit around your teeth for more than one month.
Dental implants are made up of a prosthetic, or artificial, tooth that looks and feels just like the original one. This is an important part of any cosmetic dentistry procedure, because it gives the patient a more realistic impression of his or her teeth. After the implant is inserted into the jawbone, the dentist puts the new tooth over it and covers it with a mask.
The two removable devices you see above are designed to be worn for longer periods of time. A removable dental appliance will be removed and replaced after seven months, while the semi-permanent appliance lasts for five years. You may also find yourself using these appliances in the future. The reason this is so important is that many dental implants require the dentist to reposition your implants in order to fix a problem with your jaw bone.
A removable mask is typically worn to protect sensitive areas of your face, such as your mouth. You’ll typically put on the device when you go to sleep at night and then remove it when you wake up in the morning. This allows you to be more relaxed and confident about your appearance, since you won’t have to worry about your facial expression.
Removable masks are designed to fit snugly over your mouth and chin, and should be replaced every three months. if you have them fitted by a dental implant specialist. Since they need to be replaced every few months, you’ll need to choose a brand that will be easy to clean and maintain.
Semi-permanent and removable ones can be worn for many other purposes, such as during sports, swimming, diving, and other activities that require your attention to detail. If you enjoy activities such as skiing, it may be a good idea to use these masks while wearing them. Since they can be removed whenever you want, you can use them when you don’t need to use the appliance.
You need to think carefully before you decide on which type of mask you’re going to get for your treatment. The types described above are used for cosmetic dental purposes, not necessarily for medical or health reasons.
